What is GPT-3 and how can it be applied?
GPT-3 is an artificial intelligence model that generates written language based on user prompts. By providing the tool with a small paragraph of the content to be developed, it produces a text of the required length with great coherence. As a test of the engine, the prestigious tabloid The Guardian published an opinion piece written by the artificial intelligence model we are focusing on, in which it described itself with great skill.
What is GPT-3?
As we have mentioned, Generative Pre-trained Transformer in its third version, commonly referred to as GPT-3, is an autoregressive learning model designed to automatically generate written texts with the appearance of human writing. We are, therefore, looking at a tool of what is known as Natural Language Processing (NLP), a discipline of Artificial Intelligence that facilitates interaction between people and computers, in this case in written form.
Based on user prompts (text type, length, and content), the algorithms used for the development of GPT-3 search for the words that best adapt to the continuity of the phrase or text provided as a basis for the writing. With just one or a few lines, this tool can develop content of a certain length on any subject we need.
This OpenAI tool is not a pioneer in text generation, but it has reached high levels of quality that liken the result obtained to human grammar, although perfection has not yet been achieved in this field and semantic dissonances exist that require human knowledge for correction and adaptation.
How does GPT-3 work?
Behind the magic of GPT-3 is deep learning. Its neural networks, which have 96 layers and 175 billion parameters, have been trained with 570 GB of textual information collected from the Internet from sites such as Wikipedia, various websites, or open book collections.
Its potential when responding to requested queries is, therefore, infinitely greater than other textual intelligence models, including the early versions of the OpenAI tool, launched in 2018 with 117 million parameters, and improved in 2019 with 1.5 billion parameters.

What can GPT-3 be used for?
Text creation is an essential task in the digital economy that consumes a lot of time. Documentation and writing processes are very laborious, and can now be supported and offloaded by content creation engines. By including an introductory paragraph in GPT-3, the tool returns a piece of writing of the indicated length, with a natural closing. While it is true that the syntax is not yet 100% like human written expression, these texts can serve as a basis to quickly obtain the required texts with specific changes.
Examples of GPT-3 use cases include writing articles, poems, descriptions, definitions… which are especially useful for implementing chatbots, responding to emails, creating posts, locating keywords for SEO positioning, developing landing pages, generating content for social media, and a long list of textual applications; it is even capable of creating basic programming code.
How can I access GPT-3 online?
To access the chat, you just have to register on the OpenAI website. Additionally, there are several GPT-3 chat extensions that integrate within the Google browser itself and greatly facilitate the work. Here is one of our favorites, ChatGPT for Chrome.
Limitations of GPT-3
There is no doubt that we are facing a technology that opens the doors to very interesting developments, although it does not yet constitute a business revolution due to its own limitations. As we have mentioned, the system does not manage to reproduce 100% human semantics; it has inconsistencies, lack of agreement, and dissonances in substance and form. Nevertheless, these types of developments were science fiction a few years ago and we can already rely on them to generate the basis for the content we need. We addressed its specific application to digital marketing, a sector in which it has a long way to go, in a previous article that you can consult here.
What the development of text generation engines carried out with GPT-3 is representing is a foundation for research and improvement of these and other tools destined to simplify our daily work. The next steps will be aimed at achieving greater plausibility in the texts and eliminating the dreaded and treacherous biases.
How far will GPT-3 go?
We do not know. But we are convinced that it will not take long before we hear new news about the improvement of the potential of automatic content generation tools.
