Hazitek Project: AI smart glasses for technical support in industrial environments

Artificial intelligence is starting to become part of everyday life in industry, including on the shop floor. At LISDATA, we are developing a technical support system using smart glasses that provides access to real-time contextual information, hands-free and under real working conditions.

This development is part of the project Hazitek EMIE, an R&D initiative aimed at bringing advanced AI into the industrial environment. The goal is to combine applied research and robust technology so that operations and technical staff can make better decisions exactly when they need to, even in scenarios with limited connectivity or reduced computing resources.

The project: AI glasses for technical staff

In this line of work, LISDATA’s R&D team is exploring the frontiers of compressed multimodal large language models, incorporating advanced optimization techniques and quantum technology. The goal is to bring AI capabilities that are highly sophisticated to devices and environments with limited computing resources.

Using smart glasses makes it possible to move from research to practical validation. Thanks to this hardware, use cases that until now were in an experimental phase can be implemented and evaluated in real-world scenarios.

In particular, this approach enables:

  • Multimodal RAG, where AI not only processes text, but also sees and hears the same as the operator.
  • Full contextual understanding, by integrating visual, auditory, and linguistic information from the environment.
  • More natural interaction, aligned with the real way technical staff work.

This new level of interaction is supported by an interface that projects relevant information directly onto the display, without interrupting the task or requiring changes to usual workflows.

The main challenge of the project is to ensure the entire system works smoothly and robustly in low-compute environments, such as:

  • Production lines in industrial plants.
  • Field visits with limited connectivity.
  • Scenarios where the available computing power on the shop floor is limited.

Building on this development, situations become possible in which a technician can deal with a complex fault while receiving accurate, contextual information directly in their display, keeping their hands free and their attention focused on the task.

One more step toward artificial intelligence that is naturally integrated into the day-to-day work of industry.

An initiative under the Hazitek framework

This development is part of the Hazitek program, an initiative aimed at promoting R&D projects with a high degree of industrial application and technology transfer.

In this context, LISDATA’s R team collaborates with Vicomtech, Multiverse Computing, and HiTZ Center, together with the rest of the project consortium, combining advanced research capabilities, model optimization, and validation in real industrial environments.

This collaboration makes it possible to move from research to the practical validation of artificial intelligence technologies designed to operate under real operating conditions.

AI with real impact in industry

For LISDATA, artificial intelligence only creates value when it has a direct impact on processes and on people’s day-to-day work. Our team works to ensure AI is practical and reliable, and aligned with real needs in the industrial environment and other sectors.
